Since January's First Friday lands on The New Years day we are pushing it back to the Second Friday.
The artist for January is Brian Coate. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska and currently residing in Lincoln. Coate is taking a few semesters off from UNL where he has studied art and is working on his BFA. His work has profound stylistic and conceptual influences from the post impressionists of the 1800s and the expressionists and modernists of the 20th century. The subject of Coates work are taken from his sketches of images from everyday life: the people he has seen and occupied. Coate has worked mostly in acrylic, the paintings are abstractions of these images varying degrees. Coate use colors, lines, and bold brush strokes to accentuate the expression of human emotion and experience while still using the initially observed subject as a strong basis.
